The dispenser/ container is ridiculous- uses far too much plastic and makes me feel sad that I bought it!

Admittedly being male, I haven’t always taken care of my skin as well as I should. Still, I was generally happy with my skin considering I had no wrinkles and never had acne in my teens resulting in scarring. I had reached my 30s when I began to cleanse correctly and take skincare more seriously, purchasing cleansing devices (Foreo & Clarisonic) and introducing serums and finding what products work best for my skin type etc., which was trial and error. The only issue I could never address was periodical textural irregularities on my forehead, as having combination skin, I’m prone to being more oily in the T-Zone. I use mild cleansers both morning and evening as anything harsh strips my skin completely and makes it irritated that I need to cake on moisturiser to replenish moisture loss, which can come with its issues of potentially causing breakouts. However, failing to wear any SPF on a particularly scorching day in the summer of 2022; a few months later, I gradually developed two small areas of hyperpigmentation on the end of the right cheekbone and the other on the same side temple (see the first attached image) had I worn SPF, this most likely wouldn’t have happened. Not long after, now in my mid-30s, I noticed fine-line development above both eyebrows in six months. As my skin was generally clear, these concerns became more noticeable. I have now used this product for a little over four weeks.
I separate my reviews into three segments for ease of reading, pro med and con, and to allow you to focus on which areas you are most interested in. I also try to update all my reviews periodically so they are up to date as much as possible. Due to this being skincare related, it may not be as frequent as this generally takes time to be accurate.
Pro:
____
* The push pump is hygienic compared to an open lid that allows free radicals to be mixed and trapped with the product. A removable plastic cap covers the pump. However, I periodically wipe the surface with antibacterial wipes and ensure my hands are clean before operating and applying the product to the skin.
* After four weeks of use, there is still a fair amount left, as one pump is more than enough. You can expect the same duration if you follow the instructions. Of course, It’ll last you longer if you decide that x2 per week or every other day than using daily is more suitable.
* While others have stated it has a mild fragrance for me, I find it non-existent, which is fine because I am generally not a massive fan of scents in formulas as I find them too intense, lingering or risk irritating.
* After using it for four weeks, the fine lines I wanted to target aren’t entirely gone; however, they are what I’d describe as “blurred.” the sunspots are unchanged. But with continued use, they may begin to improve. I shall update this review if there are any positive changes.

* Always use a quality SPF moisturiser. The product description suggested using a minimum rate of 20. However, I wanted to be on the higher end of caution, so I used a rate of 30 in the morning right after cleansing. Retinol WILL make your skin sensitive furthermore to UV regardless of exposure intensity. If you can’t commit to wearing sunscreen daily, I advise you not to purchase this product or any other containing this ingredient. If not worn, your skin will be more susceptible to damage, ultimately undoing the work of any cream making your targeting concerns worse or risking others developing.
* You are unable to view the amount remaining without removing the lid. I have placed this into this section, not because it is predominantly a con. Retinol is light-sensitive and will degrade if exposed to UV, so I understand why this is completely blocked and double-cased if you keep a rough track of each pump used. If you decide to purchase another, you can guess when to replace it. During my four-week. If applying twice weekly, you can expect to get a one-month minimum of use. There seems to be plenty of product remaining as there is no air released when pressed.
* Although this hasn’t happened to me, it’s well-known that targeted wrinkles, redness and dryness appear more pronounced during the first few weeks of use. This process is entirely normal. After all, retinol is an exfoliate and turns the skin cell turnover quicker. I generally don’t have dry skin unless I use a more aggressive cleanser or have recently changed or introduced other products into my routine. I have combination skin. However, with use, I developed dryness and redness in areas around the brow bone and nose. To the point my skin looked worse than it ever had. Those fine wrinkles above my brows were more prominent. With continued use, I saw an improvement in these lines becoming “blurred”. However, this wasn’t until around four/five weeks later. You won’t apply this product for a week, and your skin will be flawless anyone that says so is most likely wishing for it and therefore falls into placebo mode. Your skin WILL look worse just as introducing anything into your routine. To combat the dryness, when used in the evening, I follow up with a moisturiser 30 minutes later, allowing this cream to absorb prior.
Con:
____
* I am unable to locate the exact percentage strength of retinol. Having browsed around the other laser lift formulas, such as serums, they fall in the range of 0.2-0.3%, disclosed on those packaging and standard of most OTC. With this product, unfortunately, they do not. I would suggest this would be similar as they are from the same line though the fact that retinol is listed lower in the ingredient list shows it’s not that much of a primary. However, it could still be within the 0.2-0.3% range. That said, because the brand has chosen not to disclose the amount, it doesn’t mean it’s not potent or of quality. Still, I highly recommend introducing this slowly and following the instructions as they are there for a reason; however, if you do react instead of the second week of use using every other day, use every three days. Of course, still, ensure you are using SPF throughout.
* Retinoids, when stopped completely, the skin can take six weeks to rebalance. During this period, you may experience more frequent breakouts, dryness or excess sebum production. So before you go all in every day, ensure this will be something you’ll see through and continue to use indefinitely. Of course, stopping returns the skin to its original state, wrinkles and all and any results achieved. Overall, It’s a case of “gets worse before better”. If you do decide to stop using it, then I’d recommend still using SPF for a few weeks after.

TIMELINE
– Week 1.
I applied twice weekly as recommended on the first Saturday and Wednesday evenings, with ample rest days between using one pump each time and distributing dots before massaging. Regarding my first application, I expected a burning, tingly or itchy sensation, as others reviews have experienced and as mentioned on the packaging. To my surprise, I didn’t react even with this being a new product introduced; a slight redness, but I put this down to cleansing as this is normal for me to be a bit a little pinkish after; even gentle cleansers and moisturisers can make my skin temporarily flushed looking. The redness subsided within the same time frame as both, so I believe this is the same reaction I’d generally have without this cream. For the second application of week one, I still hadn’t got any immediate burning or what others experienced. I began questioning the effectiveness of the cream. “Maybe it’s not working”. All I could see beyond my usual redness was a shine as though my face was oily, as though I had just applied a heavy night moisturiser, although oil-free from cleansing minutes prior. The intense shine lasted on both occasions until my morning cleanse. Others have stated while they didn’t react immediately, come morning, they woke red, dry, or with a burning sensation. In my case, this hadn’t happened. Again, I questioned the product. However, I continued to proceed. Maybe I was just lucky? And my skin is tolerable.
– Week 2.
I then began to use it every other day as recommended on the packaging. Come morning. Using now at this frequency was when I woke with slight redness (similar to coming in from the cold) that had appeared during the night and stayed the entire day, even after cleansing.
– Week 3.
I then moved to daily use as recommended. Still no adverse reaction in terms of burning or dryness etc.; however, I did notice the difference in texture on my forehead, and the fine lines above my brows didn’t seem as pronounced. But still visible on close inspection. Yet felt smooth and hydrated.
– Week 4.
I have remained at the daily application now with no redness after any application and the following day as others have with continued use, and noticing further improvements in the fine lines, though still there, as well as the general texture of my forehead being more consistent. I plan on keeping to this routine of daily going forwards unless I don’t see any further improvements and progression in the coming weeks. I may consider using a verified percentage of 1% available OTC. During the rest days, I still apply facial SPF moisturiser and will continue to use the remaining product.
__________
Conclusion:
Now would I recommend purchasing? I’d say yes. If you’re committed to using and seeing through the potential irritation and uncomfortable phase and expect realistic results, I’d recommend it. It won’t drastically change your skin. If you want to eradicate wrinkles and have that glass-like texture, the only way to achieve it is with a deep chemical peel, which I had years ago and wasn’t pleasant as I had an adverse reaction to that a few days later, which I massively regretted purely down to the intense pain for weeks after as well as the entire face sheading, or to have more drastic treatments such as surgery or laser resurfacing. Using this cream, I’ve had no adverse effects, bar a slight redness in the second week lasting a few days at most, for me has been painful or intense as a chemical peel while still giving subtle results. I understand everyone’s skin is different and, therefore, will react differently, but for me, it has been pleasant to use once I found the number of days that worked best for me and my skin to use weekly. If at any time I see no further results and plateau, as mentioned, I may purchase higher verified OTC strengths or prescription strength from a dermatologist.

This night cream has given me some great results, the first few weeks I used it my skin was dry and flaky and I had some breakouts, this is completely normal when introducing a retinol product as you have probably heard of the retinol uglies (purging stage) once you get through this the results are amazing, smaller pores, reduced fine lines and smooth clear skin, I use every other day now and would never go back to a normal night cream!

Positives – packaging, hygienic/easy dispenser & scent (barely there)
Negatives – beware of retinol burn! If you have never used a retinol based cream before (like me) please don’t just go ahead and use it every day. I made that mistake of applying once in the evening before bed, and on the 3rd day my skin started to feel dry, irritated & flaky. Usually, I have no problems with my skin. I’ve since learnt that this is normal and can happen – the advice is to use twice a week at first & build up your tolerance. I stopped using it after 3 days to give my skin a break – im now on day 5 & my skin is red, patchy & stingy but not as bad as it was. Im riding it out, but I probably wouldn’t recommend this cream for people not used to retinol.
